We are looking for a Research Integrity Associate to support the assessment and resolution of research integrity concerns across our medical and chemistry journal portfolio. The role focuses on evaluating publication ethics concerns, conducting investigations, documenting findings, and supporting evidence-based decisions. You will work as part of the Research Integrity Team and collaborate closely with editorial, publishing, peer review, and legal colleagues to help protect the integrity of the scholarly record. We are looking for someone with practical experience in a research integrity and publication ethics team at a STEM scholarly publisher.
 
The ideal candidate combines attention to detail with sound judgement and a collaborative working style. They should be able to spot emerging misconduct signals and help strengthen our processes on how research integrity concerns are detected and assessed.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate incoming research integrity concerns and recommend appropriate next steps pre- and post-publication.
  • Investigate complex and sensitive cases using a wide variety of research integrity tools.
  • Prepare clear case summaries, including evidence reviewed, findings, risk assessment, and recommendations
  • Apply Thieme policies and industry best practises, including COPE, ICMJE, and STM recommendations.
  • Proactively identify emerging integrity risks and contribute to improved detection and case handling.
  • Use editorial systems, databases, spreadsheets, and research integrity screening tools to support assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and, where needed, external stakeholders to support appropriate case resolution.

Required Background & skills:

  • Prior experience in research integrity and publication ethics at a scholarly publisher.
  • Good understanding of scholarly publishing workflows, peer review, and editorial decision-making.
  • Strong analytical judgement, attention to detail, and ability to assess evidence objectively.
  • Proactive and investigative mindset, with the ability to critically engage with scholarly text
  • English to proficiency level and ability to summarise complex cases concisely.
  • Collaborative working style.
  • High personal standards of confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Well organised, able to manage several cases at the same time and under pressure.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with submission systems or screening tools.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level in an STEM subject.
  • Experience with complex cases involving multiple articles.
  • Experience in an STM journals environment.
  • Willingness to actively engage with and form internal workflows.
  • German language skills would be a bonus.
