Job ID: 1198

As a team, we provide the technical foundation for Thieme’s digital offerings. Together with our colleagues in cross‑functional teams, we aim to create optimal solutions for our customers. To support these teams, we take care of the fundamentals required to develop, build, deploy, and operate our solutions.

Thieme is a leading supplier of information and services contributing to the improvement of healthcare and health. Employing more than 1,000 staff, the family-owned company develops products and services in digital and other media for the medical and chemistry sectors. Operating internationally with offices in 11 cities worldwide, the Thieme Group works closely with a strong network of experts and partners. The products and services are based on the high-quality content of Thieme's 200 journals and 4,400 books. With solutions for professionals, Thieme supports relevant information processes in research, education, and patient care. Medical students, physicians, nurses, allied health specialists, hospitals, health insurance companies and others interested in health and healthcare are at the focus of Thieme's activities. The mission of the Thieme Group is to provide these markets with precisely the information, services, and products they need in their specific work situation and career.

Department: Information Technology
Start: As soon as possible
Contract duration: unlimited
Workung hours: full time (40h/week)

Your new passion

  • You design, build, and own our hybrid Internal Developer Platform for product teams – ranging from on‑premises infrastructure in our own data center to the Azure Cloud.
  • You consistently automate infrastructure and platform services as product components using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) and provide standardized, reusable CI/CD pipelines.
  • You design and operate our scalable container and Kubernetes platform and establish self‑service standards that enable product teams to take full end‑to‑end ownership of their applications (“You build it, you run it”).
  • You integrate observability, security, and compliance by default (monitoring, logging, DevSecOps) into the platform and focus on sustainable root‑cause analysis instead of purely reactive incident handling.
  • You gradually modernize existing legacy systems into contemporary platform and operating models (containerization, cloud and Kubernetes runtimes) and drive the maturity of our processes forward.
  • You take responsibility for architectural decisions and platform ownership and act as a technical sparring partner for development teams, product owners, and other stakeholders.

You inspire us with this

Our Tech Stack (Excerpt)
Terraform · Ansible · GitLab · ArgoCD · Kubernetes · Docker · Azure · Nexus · SonarQube · Dependency Track · Linux · Observability (LGTM Stack) · On‑Prem Infrastructure (Colocation)

  • Proven experience in building and operating modern platforms, ideally in hybrid environments (on‑premises & Azure)
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes, container ecosystems, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Several years of experience with CI/CD platforms (especially GitLab or GitHub), designing automated workflows that reduce developers’ cognitive load and improve the developer experience
  • The ability to pragmatically modernize organically grown system landscapes and to accompany this change as a continuous transformation and product process — not a one‑off project
  • Experience with observability stacks (LGTM) as well as security practices (e.g., SAST, dependency scanning)
  • A structured way of working, active knowledge sharing, and a strong desire to proactively challenge existing solutions and improve them sustainably
  • Very good German and English language skills (written and spoken)
